Hi,

The TAU are definately interesting. First of they are mundane - no psychers!

The Tau infantry have really poor stats, even poorer than the regular IG
grunt. The standart Tau Infantry will have a CAF of -1. Their battlesuits
are another matter though, they enhance the abilities of the wearer
somewhat, but perhaps not more than to a +1/+2 CAF characteristic.

Their Kroot allies are another matter though, they have almost the same
characteristics as Spacemarines when it comes to Close Combat.

There is a lot of infiltraters in the army, both the KROOT, the TAU
PATHFINDERS, and the TAU STEALYH BATTLEARMOUR have infiltration as a special
ability. The Tau regard warfare as a form of hunting, so this is quite
natural. Further the Pathfinders and Stealth troops can mark enemy units so
that they will be easyer to hit for their more shooty units.

They use skimmer technology, however their skimmers is not as fast as the
Eldar Falcons. No bike/Calvalry units, thet rely on their Flight Pack
battleramoured troops.

They use drones and smart missiles. The drones will be difficult to
incorporate in NetEpic. Theres 2 types, shield drones and firepower drones.
As I see it Unit Upgrades is the best way to go, but that breaks with the
pattern of NetEpic. Smart missiles are weapons that do not need LOS to hit
the enemy!

They have no barrage artillery. However, they have a weapon that strongly
resembles the Eldar Pulse Laser.

For Titans, they mention a Preatorien Flyer/Skimmer in the 40k rules. I
think that is sort of cool.

Their military docktrine is also quite interesting. They do not conquer
land! They eliminate enemy units, thus conquring the land ?!? Further,
fallback is not considered covardice, rater an intelligent act of regrouping
and replanning. They lay were detailed battleplans, however they are not
good at adepting to the situation so they prefer to fall back and regroup
rather than to stay and fight whenever their plans seem to fail. Large scale
warfare seems like a rather new consept althogether for the TAU. Further
their social structure is also very well organized, having castes divided
into the four elements, and led by the Etheral Caste. Etherals are the
closest they get to psychers, the etherals presence on the battlefield will
inspire the TAU wariors, and strenghten their Moral. Overal This army is
lacking in Moral, I think a score of 3+ for the TAU, and 4+ for their KROOT
mercenarys would be correct.

The Kroot is a barbaric, canibalistic race that for some reason is closely
allied to the philosofical, lawfull, well organized and highly civilized
TAU. It is indeed strange.

Neither the TAU nor the KROOT is numerous enough to win a vare of atrittion,
so they are not willing to take on large numbers of casualities.

So what would the TAU/KROOT look like in NetEpic?

I suggest a fairly small, very shooty army. With a moral Score of 3+/4+.
Vehicles with a max move of 20 cm. Most weapons will be hitting on 4+ or
better, quite a lot of save modifiers on their weapons. Low armour scores.
Quite good range. Lots of infiltrators.

Detachment sizes/Cost quite close to Eldar for the TAU.
The kroot is somwhat different in organisation so I think the ORK horde rule
for putting together a force is quite apopriate for them.

Hi!

Interesting. Perhaps we can make them another race touched by the Slann,
but more technology oriented. I've seen some pictures and they would be
extremely easy to make as an epic army using DSII figs and perhaps some
manga-style mechs for knights and such. Any ideas for epic scale kroots?

While there are some other projects in line, this is something we could
start at some point, although there will be heavy reliance on those with
codex information.
