Hi,
Talking to Jervis on sunday, at Fantizan, he was saying that some new minis will be coming along but he certainly didn't give the impression that this would be a replacement for all the old stuff. I think that the old stuff will still be available as the core mini range for some time. As a 'non-mainstream' game, I don't think that sales volume would justify a complete redesign and retooling for all new minis.
One thing that was discussed was ork battlewagons, I was moaning about turning up to play my first E40K game (when it first came out) with a nice varied ork army, only to be told that my Fortresses were Fortresses and everything else would be 'battlewagons'. I told him that the sudden lack of variety in the army, with all the different tanks having the same stats, gave me a very poor first impression of the game. His comments were that because all Ork tanks are 'one-offs' built by the clans meks, there shouldn't be a range of rigid designs (Gobsmasha, Bonebreaka etc) as they would ALL be different. Therefore the stats for a battlewagon represented the 'average typical characteristics' for Ork wagons. I almost admired the way that he justified making them identical to represent the individuality of the vehicles designs. He did say however, that in the 'new improved' epic he wants to have battlewagon minis that can be customised with different bits, guns etc to make them unique. The game will not allow for unique 'vehicle design rules' like 40K though, as he feels that gamers will work out the best gun and fit all the battlewagons the same, spoiling the balance of the game. He did suggest that there will be stats for a number of different battlewagon types though, with each biased towards a different role in the army. These will still be 'generic averages' however and do not need to necessarily match the weapons on the vehicle.
I inferred from this that a) the new ork army will have more vehicle variety in the rules and b) Jervis would like to have Ork armies represented on the table with a mass of individualised vehicles, in keeping with the Orky character. It wasn't discussed if this variety of vehicles was to be achieved through new multi-part minis, or customising old ones with extra bits. The old plastic battlewagons from E40K were quite customisable so maybe that is the way he intends to go still. On the other hand, there may be new minis planned for it.
I personally would be happy to see more new miniatures as it all adds to the variety available. Although I never liked E40K as a game, I welcomed its arrival because of the wonderful new minis that came along with it. So long as they keep all the current stuff available on the back catalogue, new minis can only be a good thing.
Cheers,
Graham

Subject: [NetEpic ML] Need confirmation
Hi!
I picked up on another forum that it says in MAg #7 that they will NOT be re-releasing the entire epic lines as originally promised and that new minis will take their place, although it will be mostly Imperials and Orks due to the Armageddon business.
Anyone can confirm this?
Peter
