My opinions on recent posts
Hi,
I didn't reply to the specific threads cause i'm gonna cover a few of different threads in this post.
Okay, Fanatic may not be tied directly to GW, but it's still run by it. He may have wanted to do Armageddon as a new game, he may wan't to do all armies at once, but I suspect GW's accountants won't let him, saying 'look at it's past record. We won't give you any more $$$ unless you can prove it's gonna work' so you hit catch 22. He needs the armies out to get it to work, but can't get the armies out until it works. And Fanatic still relies on GW stores and marketing to flog it's stuff, so it's still gotta follow their policies.
Regarding Squats, that was because those heavily involved in 40k at GW decided a long time ago to have them destroyed. It's virtually official that there's gonna be an article in WD soon to explain their complete and utter wipe out from existence, and it's been being sade on the rumours page for a long time. BUT, GW haven't ruled out re doing space dwarves. In BFG you have a new army called Demuirg (sp??) which are supposed to be the new space dwarves. Sorry if you already knew this, but it didn't seem like you did, or you didnt bring it up.
Next, letter to Jarvis, playtesting, etc. As Jarvis said in E40k mag issue 1, he's going for a policy of release then modify, simply 'cause they don't have the $$$ to test them anywhere near as much as the rest of GW does. So far he has been a bit unwilling to change stuff after release, but he has done, so things look good for our playtesting working. Reading Kens letter about feedback, yes, get in early, but 1 letter from the group is enough. We do need to see if we can link to the E40k list, can anyone give me a link so I can start looking?
Lastly, i'm a big fan of the E40k rules. I like them. I personally do find them quick playing and not to much hastle, I agree with Jarvis there. I dislike how SM/TL plays (I can't say for Netepic I found it too late, no-one will play old style rules anymore, and I haven't read all of NetEpics rules yet, but i'm getting there :-) )
But I think there should be some way of getting some more variety in. A lot of people want it, and really it's the majority that counts. I will probably buy it to see what it's like, I just hope it doesn't slow down too much. to give you some idea, no slower than 40k 3ed plays. NetEpic needs to get input into this, you represent the up until now ignored section.
And GW is only there to make $$$ like every other company, so that explains the market strategy. Bar the game designers, no-one else gives a flying **** about what you or anyone else thinks, so long as they can get people to spend, spend, spend; and kiddies=muchos $$$. But I think you already knew that, I just thought i'd say it.
