I'd leave the system as is, but if someone can make a WORKABLE alternate
than it gets in as optional.

I see your point. It all depends on the method of hit allocation in this
case. However, the problem with wargames of this type is that the
positions of "stands" of models are abstract way of representing groups
of men. The "stand" is more like the center of a particular group of
men. It could as well be argued that the medic "drowns" quite well in
the mass of other marines. The marines in the back of the formation
would rush forward to plug gaps made by casualties etc.
