I don't really take detachments either, companies are just more value for
money.
My usual line up is a Land Raider Company, Ravenwing, Battle Company,
Tactical Company and then a detachment or two in a 3k game, so it won't
really affect me.
The detachments are just specialist stuff to flesh out my forces.

Subject: Sv: RE: [NetEpic ML] [v5.0] Space Marine chapters...
Hi
Dont get me wrong! Im totally against regular SM chapters getting
everything, like bike-companies, crusader-companies, flamercompanies and so
on.
But as long as you they dont get the equipment in company-size, I think
that chapters such as the Dark Angels, Black Templars, White Scars and
Salamanders will keep their uniqeness.
It probably is a question of gaming-style. I very seldom field detachments.
I usually use my points on companies and specials and only take detachments
to fill up the odd points. The detachments breaks to easy.
