THE BATTLE LINE

The Imperial Guard is a massive organisation which is rigidly structured.
Combining divisions of tanks, entire legions of infantry and massed
artillery batteries they can grind down enemy forces. They are often
likened to a sledgehammer, as once there forces have gained momentum they
are almost impossible to defeat.

There are four types of squad in the Imperial Guard Army.

Command Squads:
Command squads include the command HQ. They are responsible for
co-ordinating the Imperial Guard forces on the battlefield. Each command
squad can co-ordinate up to three regimental squads, this includes the
command HQ.

Regimental Squads:
The bread and butter of the Imperial Army, Regimental Squads form the
bulk of the Imperial Guard army. Each Regimental Squad can have both a
support squad and a specialist squad attached to it.

Support Squads:
Support squads are attached to the regimental squads to provide heavy
firepower support. A support squad normally comprises of a heavy weapon
platform and two crew, as such they are much smaller than a normal
Regimental Squad.

Specialist Squads:

Specialists are attached to which ever unit may need them, an example
of a specialist squad is a squad of Ratling Snipers, or Ogryns. Other
examples include vehicles. They are used to supplement existing squads and
provide talents that might be otherwise lacking.

Because of the rigid nature of the Imperial Guards command, armies are
limited in the choices they can make when they are selected.

Every army must contain a Command HQ.

Each regimental squad (Imperial Guard Squad, Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons
Squad) may have one support and one specialist squad attached to it.

For every three regimental squads you must have a command squad. (The
command HQ may also command three regimental squads.
