Jar is correct. Chaos effects are harmful due to the chaos energy that
spawns it and not so much the means the attack takes.

Unfortunately, yes. One of things I've assumed about Chaos Cards is the
unwritten assumption that the recipient not only gets what's written
(gas,
in this case), but a lot of raw Chaos energy and an aura of power. It's
this aura and chaotic energy that causes the effect, not just the
description. Personally, I have a hard time beleiving that an Avatar
would
be vulnerable to gas or poison, or that Space Marines lose combat
efficiency just because their opponent smells bad. Haven't they ever
heard
of respirators? I justify the effect by assuming a lot of disruptive
Chaos
energy.
