RE: [NetEpic ML] Epic A: should we say someting?

Hi!

No, I may have not explained myself correctly. The discontent and voices
were mainly on GW forum, although the topic has been beaten to death on
Paul's site too (great forum by the way you guys should drop by), but
that's not to say those who expressed these opinions are epic40k'ers.
I'd bet a lot of them are probably "old guard" just like us and play
older versions. Although there are those who prefer epic 40k that also
don't like Epic A so far, it's probably safe to assume more SM/Net Epic
players aren't that thrilled with it either.

The main reason I started this topic was due to the thread on the GW
forums by a retailer who pretty much said he would not support this game
since it was not different in concept from epic 40k (which I agree with)
and thus was a bad product for him to invest in. It got me thinking
about the attitude I have seen from retailers over the years spanning
several states and frankly his opinions are not by any means unique.
Many retailers got burnt with epic 40k and retailers have long memories
with bad products. Talking recently with retailers I know from NY (two
gentlemen I know well); one would not bother stocking it and the other
didn't even know (or care) that a new epic was being developed.

So it got me thinking (bad habit I know) that for epic 40k we had no
real outlet to make our feelings known. This time while the outlet
leaves much to be desired, we can say something. Granted, I have no
illusions that anything we say individually or collectively will matter,
but I feel that for the record, so to speak, we should say something so
as to dispel GW/Fanatics delusion that everyone is satisfied with the
way epic is going. The grumbling I have seen so far says otherwise.

In addition, why should we be so apologetic to voice ourselves loud and
clear and say "the current epic does not reflect the desire or the taste
of the majority of epic gamers". We tend to say it all the time on this
list and when we talk off list. It seems we have convinced ourselves
they will never listen to us if we "say that". But I believe (even more
so now) that it NEEDS to be said. Even if we are ignored, at least it
was said and no one can later say "why didn't you say something".

On those threads I mentioned one chap said something pretty profound
IMO. He said there are a lot of old GW games with a fan base on the net,
but no GW game has generated the following and the scale of support as
Net Epic has for SM/TL and that therefore there just HAS to be something
great about that game. Simple assertion, big truth.

I don't feel that I HAVE to support Epic A just because epic is on the
ropes and it needs a winner. As with any consumer, I support a product
that caters to my tastes and which I believe in. Epic A as it stands or
even with all the changes GW claims to give it is not what I look for in
epic. SM had it, TL had it, and Net Epic has it. Epic A DOES NOT have
it.

So to make a long story short, why not say what we feel? The worst that
can happen is that we are ignored and we have lived with that for 5+
years.

Besides, at the very least we can don a big Cheshire Cat grin when Epic
A does flop and say.....

....I TOLD YOU SO! <evil grin>

Peter

Peter,
I haven't really heard any negativity about Epic A on
Tuffskulls group site but I only quuickly checked it
out. If you want my name and email address for this I
will help out. I didn't know the E40K group really
disliked the new version.
