Come to think of it, the Imperium is frighteningly similar to Alpha Complex.
Let's see:

Emperor = The Computer.

High Lords of Terra = High Programmers.

Administratum = CPU and PLC combined.

Ecclesiarchy = HPD & Mind control.

Inquisition = Internal Security with Grey Knights and Ordo Malleus being
secret sub branches.

Adeptus Arbites = The Blues.

Adeptus Mechanicus = A combination of R&D (neither usually understands what
they are doing and are always trying to achieve old reckoning tech), Tech
Services and Power Services.

Space Marines = Vulture troopers.

Both are always at war, ruled by an entity which is treated like a God by
the citizens, citizens are suppressed and treated harshly, individual sector
commanders do whatever they please and vie for power...ARRGGHH! It's True!
