Re: [Epic] Painting

I must confess to being a 'gamer' first and a 'hobbiest' second; I
regularly play with unpainted mini's, use substitutions, etc. At least part
of this is because I am the only one of my group of friends to own any epic
stuff at all, so a) its all up to me and b)my stuff doesn't look bad in
comparison to anyone elses. However, since Epic40k came out, my newfound
interest in the game has stimulated me to previously unheard of heights of
painting exploits. I did my Warhounds, my Warlock Titan, and, of course,
the Annihilation, my Warlord titan.

I say 'did' in the loosest sense of the word; they look pretty good
(espescially the Warhounds), but I'm a very inexperienced painter. I
haven't given them washes, or highlighting, or anything, because I'm
nervous I'll mess them up, because I really have no idea how to do that
kind of thing.

Last night I took my recently purchased spray can of black primer and hosed
down my two Mega-Gargants, my Gargant, about twenty-five battlewagons, five
Stompas, acouple of Falcons, 12 rhinos, and a few knight Paladins. This
message is intended to, firstly, ask for some suggestions/advice on where
to go/colour schemes/how to wash/how to highlight, etc. It is secondly
intended to share a few of my limited successes, to give you fellows some
ideas.

I painted the head, the central spoke of the Lifta droppa, one of the hull
cannons, and the Deth Ray green, on the first Mega Gargant. The overall
effect is rather intimidating, and looks decent; I like to avoid having my
models look to busy, so the huge black Gargant with ominous green
highlights is fairly succesful, as far as I'm concerned.

The second Mega doesn't look as good, so far. I painted the face blue
because I was thinking of it being a Deathskull Gargant, but against the
mostly black background it doesn't stand out much. I painted a few of the
guns red, but my red is pretty transparent, and so far it looks too pink
for me to be happy with it. One interesting thing I tried - moderately
succesful- is that I took some Ral Partha blood wash and painted it in
different places on the gargant, which now looks stained and bleeding. I
like the effect a lot, but it looked even better before it dried, so I'm
trying to figure out what is red, transparent, and shiny, to paint on the
gargant.

I have also begun painting my regular Gargant and about half of my
battlewagons. So far I'm really happy with the effect. I opened up my
bottle of silver metallic, and, calling on some half-remembered thing about
drybrushing, I drybrushed silver onto the black vehicles/gargant. The
effect is particularily cool on the Gargant, which looks scraped and beat
up --exactly the way I wanted it. Some of the battlewagons are a bit
shinier than I wanted, but the overall effect is very nice, as the silver
picks out the details on the wagons excellently. I have drybrushed silver
onto my stompers also, as well as painting their heads green. I like the
effect; it seems very Orky.

I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the battlewagons; I'm thinking of
painting them red and making them Evil Suns --my force is very Goffic so
far. I am also considering painting the second Mega mostly red. I have yet
to tackle the infantry; suggestions would be appreciated.
