I'm not a great painter, I just do my best and I'm usually happy with the
result. I have no problem comparing my minis to other better painters and
finding them not as good cause I haven't an artistic bone in my body...

I guess my best advice is DO UNDERCOAT the mini and DON'T put too much paint on.
Some undercoats are better than others, and some paints are better than others.
I'm in Australia so some of my paints aren't available to you, but Testors
grey primer (turpentine based) is an absolutely outstanding undercoat (far
better than any other I have encountered) although it is a fairly dark gray
and so light colours do not take too well over the top of it. The Citidel
(acrylic) paints are actually quite good, but I have found Ral Partha to be
better and some Tamiya paints to be exceptional.
