[Epic] marine command ?

as a newbie i have a coupla of newbie questions.
i am talking space marines here.
when you choose a unit (stand )to be the detachment hq do you get any
special bonuses or do you just pay an extra 25 points for it being the
command unit? if there are no bonuses whats the point? discourage small
detachments? why not just build the cost in?

second question:when you drop pod or thunderhawk a detachment into
battle does it matter to chain of command that the supreme hq is more
than 30 cm away.
how could you possibnly avoid that?
