No, it isn't a house rule. The ruling appears in one of the WD Q&As
(it is official). It's either 173 or 175, can't remember which
(though I could find out if you are interested). Actually, if it
is really important, I can scan the Q&A in and email it to you
(respond privately to lado_at_...).

I believe they can take any support card available to the marines
(no company cards). Most people restricted this to vehicles (i.e.
no devestator detachments), but I don't know if this was official.
