RE: [NetEpic ML] I always imagined that they started as Gretchin or Squigs and mutated into Orks as some kind of weird life cycle.

One clarification about the "smart-fungus". It had no effect whatsoever on Orks. The Orks just started to wonder why the heck thery're being bossed around by beigs the size of snotilngs and that the fungus must be a real delicacy since only the bosses were allowed to eat it. So they ate all of the fungus. The fungus never grew anywhere but in the caves of the original Ork homeworld, so the loss was ireplaceable.

About the reproduction: The "Orks are fungi" thingy is the newer explanation. In the old days Orks had a kind of marsupial pouch for the baby Orks. They still reproduced asexually but in this cse the older Orks got urge to go to wilderness to reproduce. That was why the young Orks "wildboyz" were found in the wilderness.
