Hi!

T-hawks have always gotten a bad rap in epic, especially prior to the introduccion of AA units. Well executed you can hand an opponent a one turn knock out with a flight of these loaded with troops. Of course, usually it works only once since the opponent will figure out how to counter it.

Its quite easy too with a small investment in AA (depending on game size one or two detachments are enough) and placing them and their radius of fire in tandem you can effectively cover you half of the battlefield.

Remember that AA units are cheaper than fliers. Also they snap fire at fliers without penalty, thats a huge bonus, since transport fliers come in with cargoes in the movement phase. It's a brave (or foolish) player who risks full transports, one shot and "poof" one whole detachment dead, perhaps breaking the company or support card. Also, check the stats of AA. Most have nasty -2. -3 save modifers. Fliers average armor saves are 3 or 4, not good.

I have played chaos without air support, you can win but it gets dicey, especially if the other players experienced, but it can be done. The design desicions made wanted to foster a combined approach and I think we got that.

Then again you may be suprised MANY people dont use fliers at all, so sometimes this issue doesn't come up all that frequently. Actually when we do version 5.0, fliers may be categorized as "advanced" rules.

Peter
