Subject: [NetEpic ML] [v5.0] Proposed history
I'm missing a couple of dates in this, so would anyone who knows more
than
I do please fill in the blanks? If there are editions and games that
should
go in this, I'd like to know about them, too. Thanks!

A Short History of Net Epic
First came ADEPTUS TITANICUS in 1988. This was a game about giant robot
combat during the Horus Heresy, when half the Imperium revolted against
the
other half. You could customise Titans and there were crew experience
and
campaign rules. The CODEX TITANICUS expanded the game and introduced
Orks
and the Eldar.
Then came SPACE MARINE in 1989. This added infantry, tanks and artillery
to
the battlefield. Each 5-man infantry squad had multiple weapons, firing
multiple times. SPACE MARINE (2nd Ed.) was released in 1991. This
removed a
lot of the complexity from the basic rules but added a large number of
special rules. In 19XX came TITAN LEGIONS. It corrected a few minor
errors
in SM 2, but added very little apart from some nice models.
---->Titan Legions was in 1995
In 19XX, Games Workshop released EPIC 40,000, a complete re-write set
10,000 years after the Horus Heresy. The basic mechanics were a little
more
complex than SM2 but there were none of the reams of special exceptions,
so
it played a lot faster. Unfortunately, the various races lacked flavor
and
many of the special abilities had been cut.
----> Epic 40k was released March 1997
ADEPTUS TITANICUS II was released in 2000 and re-printed the giant robot
combat rules. Anyone know more about it?
----> You can view these rules as updated AT rules. The basics are
obviously drawn from the original game. Unfortunately it has the same
problem AT has with first edition space marine where it did not mesh
well with the existing rules (epic 40k)
The NetEpic Discussion Group was born in 19XX, and over the past
(eight?)
has produced four versions of 6mm warfare rules. What you hold in your
hands is the latest in an ongoing attempt to create the perfect set of
rules.
----> Born January 16th, 1997 on the old space marine majordomo list and
moved out of there to group e-mails in March 1997. We are over 5 years
old.
<grin> interesting story the birth of net epic, its almost like a soap
opera with intrigue, hot arguments and people pissed off. Now it seems
so funny, of course it wasn't then.
