Seems pretty minor. Irritating as all get-out in certain circumstances, but
minor - especially in the Epic scale. But the arguement of balancing
advantages & disads holds true, so let's work on this.
For one thing, a disad can either take place before the game and affect
army construction, or during the game and have a recurring effect.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that recurring effects tend to get forgotten
and slow game play - regardless of what it is. I'd rather have a modifier
that affects army construction and is over and done with. This goes for
advantages as well.
So - the Blood Angels advantage is that they can form a Death Company of
hardcore, berzerk killers. On the down side, the regular troopers have a
1-in-6 chance of becoming hardcore berzerk killers. Balances out rather
nicely - now let's put it into game terms.
Proposal:
If a player chooses to play Blood Angels, they *must* purchase a Death
Company. This is a Special Card, costs 75 points and comes with the
specialized Chaplain. No troops. From the rest of your army, take one stand
from every single infantry detachment. These are the troops in the Death
Company, and their stats change to Death Company stats, no matter what they
used to be.
On the plus side you've got a Death Company with some nifty special
abilities. On the down side, the rest of your army has 5-stand detachments.
The bigger your army, the bigger your Death Company - you pay for the
Chaplain and the rest of the troops just sorta shift around.
Opinions?
