Hi,
I dont like the rule that says : "Both stands are moved to base contact and a close combat is fought in the CC phase as normal".
The Champion should move towards the HQ unit. The HQ unit may
already have moved that turn, and if so, would move again using
this rule. Besides, if the HQ unit wins he might find himself
out of command radius of his troops, and also out in the open.
No commander would move out of CR of his troops imho.
