Indeed there are some weaknesses....

Since you brought up the mechs, let's have a look at them.

The mechs form the backbone of a slann army. I would only take heavy mechs
for a average battle of 3000 - 4000 points. The heavy mechs have some
limitations, range, CC and movement. They may warp, but if they warp without
the assistance of a Mage or Vanguard they will deviate and create
unpredicatble situations for your army. Since the Slann on average have few
units to begin with, you need to be able to count on your units to fullfill
their goals in a predicatble manner if your battleplan is to succeed.

When operating in cohersion with your mage the hvy.mechs become a very
dangerous force indeed. (Now I've testet changing some of the Mage's special
powers into psychic powers and found it to be a better balance. That is
something we can get back to in the Slann Revision.)

However, the very effective combo of mage/hvy.mech must move forward onto
the board for it to be usefull in a battle. This will create at least one
perhaps several windows of opportunity for your opponent to strike at you
with som fast calvalry units. Knowing that the slann has a limited number of
detachments aswell, most armies will be able to outmanouver the Slann. I've
not asfar found a good Slann defence aganist this threat. (Note I don't
combine Slann and Necrons).

So when playing against Slann what you need is Bikes, Jetbikes, Teleporting
Termies, Gyrokopters, Roughriders etc. Keep them in reserve (out of
sight!!) and wait for the slann units to move forward. 1 of 2 things will
happen. Either the slann player moves within striking distance and you may
charge them, or they will not move into your strikesone and you may occupy
it with your own troops and thus controll the flow of battle. Use the
strikesones to direct the mechs to where you want them. And you'll cause
serious trouble for your opponent. However, remember that the Slann mechs
can hold their own in CC if on first fire oreders! Do not charge them when
they are on FF!!!! Even warhounds will find it difficult to take them out!

What you really dont want to do when playing against Slann, is to get caught
in a mid to short range firefight, there they are virtually unbeatable.

Nils
