Hi all,

The fluff for the 40k universe is hardly what you'd call concise as it
seems to follow the principle of what ever new release will make money
will be included! :-) I'm sure I remember reading about a battle in
the Horus Heresy where only company's of Marine armour battled as
infantry couldn't fight on the planet.

The current Marine list doesn't place restrictions currently on what
you can purchase armour wise. It is quite easy to field a completely
armoured force. e.g. Land Raider Co, plus 5 lots of vindicators and
predator support cards. This is anti fluff, but is valid!

If they are so rare, do we need to impose restrictions on how many
armoured support cards can be taken in a battle? :-P

I think also the 3rd edition rules allowed far greater flexibility in
th choosing of armoured formations? I'd have to read the army list
again though to clarify! (gahh third edition rules, *shudder*)

However I tend to agree that at small scale the company's would prove
un balanced in the context of a Marine army.

What I'd propose then is that they are only available in battles over
5000 points. Even then they would be optional units so your
opponent/s would have to agree. This would reflect the Marine
armouries putting out large formations of tanks when the majority of
the chapter is in the field.

Vindicator Company - 500pts
Predator Company - 650pts

They are more expensive than three lots of detachements to encourage
the use of those instead.

Alternatley you could say that you have to have three infantry
company's to be allowed one armour company (not including Land Raiders)

As an aside I like the idea of a Codex Marine force which specialises
in Armoured combat. I'm sure there must be one out there!
