That's why I choose to play NetEpic and try to stay away from GW shops and
games. On the ther topic, heresy is a completely different scenario.
Probably troop and unit stats would be also different.

That is correct. And if you like, you can repeat for several different
chapters and field no infantry at all, since as marine you can take Standard
list units from any SM chapter that are not codex included, without counting
as allies; furthermore, you can field support cards from a marine chapter
attached to a different chapter's company. Indeed, nowhere says you cannot
field a complete force of assault marines from a single chapter. Every time
an assault detachment is bought as a support card it should count as
fielding part of another company (eithe the chapter assault company or a
battle company). Now it is not not ruled so. Still common sense should
apply.

again, common sense. You are not expected to take more than one support card
of a kind for a company without a special reason.

huh!? third edition? I suppose you refer to Epic40k. I do not know much
about it, since I played up to 2nd/TL and then jump directly to Netepic.

From my POV, marines would never field tank units as company organized.
Instead, you should not have a problem to field three infantry companies
with those points and assign one support card of vindicators and predators
to each company. From the gameplay POV is exactly the same since SM
detachments do not have any restriction on command radius or similar. I
think the only reason they had Land Raider company was to give that extra
bonus command vehicle to SM when fielding their most characteristic tank and
give them a stronger BP. Still, I find your proposal too cheap, since what
you are actually paying extra for is the command vehicle. Furthermore, this
cost would still give SM two extra cheap companies, which IMHO is no good
for balance. The previous solution (buy them as separate suport cards for
three companies) is more fluffly and game-balance oriented. However the
three company restriction sounds fine to me to include for Land Raider
companies. Rememember that for smaller battles you still can buy them as
separate detachments.

You should take a look to the white scar and iron hand army codex. Specially
the fist of Khan company.
