I too liked the old method of swarming a titan but a squad of six space
marines and rhinos could do it. An extra dice for every 3rd stand sounds
fair (3rd/6th/9th etc...). I would however rule that elite troops such as
vetrans use an extra dice every 2nd stand (2nd/4th/6th/8th/10 etc...).
