There is one reason...the thunderers are veterans of many battles and as
such know a few tricks of close combat. However, I don't like the idea of
squat warriors having 0 CAF while thunderers have +1.

Good points! I just wanted to round them off, but you're prices are good.
 
Regarding the thunderers and such, I have wondered that myself and can't
come up with a good explanation.
