When Peter and I played I rolled for each unit in the detachment (affected
by the nullify template). It takes a few seconds longer but it does allow
you to move those not affected and forces you to move them in a coherent
manner where you must keep within 6cm of each unit in the squad.
One other thing, I have seen is the slann laying down the nullyfying
template in a way not to affect my troops but as a detour forcing my troops
into clusters or to take a longer route to the objective. They are great
tactical weapons.
And the big Slann titan is a bad ass. Be careful around that guy.
