Greetings Peter!

Books (Slaves and Lost), as well as the SM Renegades supplement.
Ultimately this is a "fluff" issue. From a game mechanics point of view
there has never been a restriction on "what" a rhino can carry. The
problem with the rhino is although it is said it is a space marine
vehicle, many other armies use it. I agree in principle that rhinos
should be for marines, but what to do with other armies that use them?
There is an easy resolution though. For IG change all rhinos to
chimeras, make that their official transport. For squats use
Ironshields. This would keep rhinos as marine only.
-->Agreed. Well, almost anyway. I don't think that the monstrous and
demonic units should use the transports. I just find something
fundamentaly wrong with the concept for some reason. As you dsaid about
Chaos, GW's vision has altered over the years. The Rhino is another good
example of that. When they were first introduced, they were the standard
APC of the Imperium and Squats. IG, SM, and Squats all used em. IIRC,
they "originally" came from the Squats, right? But given what we have to
work with, Rhinos are standard for SM, and CSM (and Squats), while
Chimeras are the standard for the IG.
Quite frankly I have never seen what the big deal is with this units and
chaos access to it. I know how to use it effectively, but also know how
to counter it as well. If we extend the above logic, this unit is marine
only, so only marine stands could use it.
-->Truly, I don't either. Again, part of this is a "fluff" issue. We
haven't ever established, satisfactorily what was, and is not Heresy era
equipment. Once we do that, what is available to Chaos should fall into
place.
Well put. We all come from different backgrounds and have a slightly
different take on how to play the game. But as I mentioned before we
tend to narrow our perceptions of the game to our experience within one
gaming group. The members of a gaming group adapt to each others playing
style pretty quickly and sometimes this leads to playing in the same
way. If my friend "X" does this I do that. Beleive me there is nothing
more of a shock from playing in another totally different group to learn
that so called "standard" tactics are nothing of the kind and that
nothing is infallible.
-->Ayup. Part of my point, better put by you. Part of the problem lies
in that we all ahve our little groups, and we tend to be it when it comes
to playing Epic. Not a lot of new blood coming in. Part of the problem
is GW policy (though fanatic may help some), ad people tend to shy away
from sinking money inot a "six month game." So, it tends to be just us.
It would be nice if we could get more games in among list members, but I
can't really afford to be winging my way around the globe right now.
*Sigh*
This gives me an idea, we should start a series of talks that revolve
around, "how do you handle this" situation. For example, one could
express a particular case that presents a problem to deal with during a
game in tactical terms. Things termed "cheesy" would be good example.
Then everyone could input how to counter this. You'd be surprised what
people come up with!
-->This is a good idea. Maybe if people start seeing others experiences,
some of these discussions wouldn't get so heated. The morale issue of
late is a good example of this. Theoretical meeting the actual. Like the
Marines say "Learn, adapt, over come." We can learn from each other,
when we allow ourselves to. I certainly have picked up a few tricks from
the list...
