Having done this before, and with 8 players strangely enough, I'll offer
up my $.02 worth. When I ran it, I used my own armies (Chaos and
Imperials) and terrain. This worked well, with the chaos players taking
a force dedicated to each power, while on the Imperial side, one player
had a DA detachment, another had a Knight household, one took the
infantry, and another took the armor. Nothing fancy in the battle, a
straight up attack and grab type, with several objectives scattered
about. Roughly 2500 points a side, and the battle lasted the full 4 hour
slot. My suggestions, based on what was listed as available armies, is
to run Orks vs Imps/Squats. Use four different Ork clans (one for each
projected player), of about 800 pts each. try to avoid gargants and
other titan types, to give each player a more meaningful experience. It
can get boring while only controlling a single titan, especially if other
players have mucho infantry to play with. Divide the other side up as
follows: 1. SM detachment. Use company cards with some vehicles, or
something like the DA Ravenwing; 2. Imperial Guard. Infantry if you have
them, otherwise use this as the main vehicular force, and make the SMs
the infantry. Should also include at least one support card of
artillery; 3. Squats. Figure roughly an 800 pt force of the stunties.
Use a good mix of troop types. Chances are you're going to get
inexperienced players, so keep it simple stupid as not to over burden
yourself and the players (the KISS principle). Use a good amount of
terrain, but don't over crowd the table. Use as wide a variety of troop
types as possible. This allows everyone to see as many of the types as
possible, and give them an idea of how each works. As long as everything
remains simple in terms of the scenario, you allow yourself the time
needed to explain and demonstrate the rules. I realize this is pretty
generic, and if you want something more specific, just say so, and I'll
do what I can, and I'm sure the rest of the list will be more than happy
to correct me if they feel I'm wrong on something.
