Hi,
I can see that they're never going to be in the NET epic rules, but you said the reason you want to use them is you think they look good. So whats to stop you from simply placing a blast marker in the location where any vehicle is destroyed, or a detachment fails a moral test or whatever just for aethstetics.
Personally I don't like the look of them at all, but its personal preference so just shove them down when you fire if you want! Its not going to effect the game any is it?
Course you could get more complicated and say that they block los. Place a large one when a vehicle is destroyed which is replaced by a small one at the beginning of the next turn and then removed the turn after. This would represent the blocking of los by a smouldering wreck before it burns itself out.
Just a random thought if you actually wanted to use them for a rules setting.
