According to the fluff, cults are NOT c=
onnected to the hive fleet. When a cult gets large enough it starts to send=
out a psychic beacon, which attracts the hive fleet. If a fleet is not aro=
und, nothing happens. This is just before the cult shows up. Cult's existid=
long before the Tyranids showed up. How the genestealers arrived long befo=
re the actual hive fleets is not known. Maybe the tyranids sent out advace =
probes to seed galaxies with stealers.

ranids, which is also where the mention that hormogaunts breed independatly=
. Occasionally the tyranids will sort of terror raid a planet and seed it w=
ith hormogaunts, because they don't have the forces to take it yet.
