I wouldn't say that I have no problem with my circles. I use
pliers, and it's still a pain. I admit I haven't based any of your
figures, but...
1) Priming the base makes the hole a little smaller
2) Priming the bottom of the figure makes the circle larger
3) Squeeze harder with the pliers :)
I've noticed that a lot of people like to prime and paint on
the sprue. I never do this because the tops of the figures aren't
primed, and I don't want the paint chipping/wearing off later. The
tops of the figures are the parts of my figures that get the most
wear.
The only problem is when a random infantryman decides he doesn't
like being in the base and goes flying off somewhere. I'm not very
good at hunting them down after they pop out forcibly.
An alternative is to drill a hole down in each of the holes.
Then it doesn't matter as much how tightly they're based if you put
glue down liberally.
I need new pliers for non-basing purposes. My needle-nose
pliers were old when I started painting, but now they're old and
covered with green paint and dried superglue. :)
