I love playing pure marine armies, so right away, the whirlwinds are the
only source of barrage. But overall they are a useful unit, they are
cheap, very fast, and available (You get 6 in the game box). The biggest
advantage of any artillery unit, is it stops you opponent from bunching
up his troops, which can hinder an assault quite dramatically. the short
range seems to compound this effect in my experience. As for griffons, I
think the 30cm range is iffy, but when you throw in a load of IG
infantry, they are good support...
