the correct rank structure is (for a western army):
Squad (Corporal or Sergeant)
Platoon (Lieutnant)
Company (Captain)
Battalion (Major or Lieutnant colonel)
Regiment (Colonel)
In Italian army there is also another platoon organization for logistical
problem.
