Matt tried that. Did a drop just out side of snap fire range of my Goff
Clan. Who was on overwatch. 24 boys/Nobz + 6 Stompas in support. He
killed the Wierdboy with a 'Nid Fate card, I played "Dakka" fate card
and opened up on him. (23*2) + 24 = 70 fire power, on over watch.
Results lots of dead bugs. He's assault never got off the ground.
Worst airborne assault massacre I have seen sense playing "A Bridge to
Far" using Tractic rules. (Important safety notes: Don't drop Para's
on a Panzer Regiment and don't drop spores next to a unit on overwatch.)

Surely the Doomwing is the best point for point fighter, as it acts
at the same time as a Nightwing but costs (give or take a point) the same as
a TBolt.
As a personal opinion, I'd actually give the "best all-rounder" to
the humble Orkfighter-bomma. They're as good as thunderbolts or doomwings in
an intercept, and their barrage attack gives them the potential to generate
as much firepowerper unit cost as most bombers - more, in fact, if they get
a juicy target like a big Tyranid swarm. Add that to the fact that they also
act as the Orks' artillery, and, well, they do rate as being fairly vital
(IMHO).
Against the IG, though they could only realy be used as interceptors
due to the amount of flak units, they normally have, and the Ork's
FB need to get close?

Do not want to raise another topic that may have already been beaten to
death, BUT,
The Squat army list in the CJ. Can you freely use this to bolster the
Imperial Forces from the main army book? I have a friend who likes to do
this. I could think of no real opposition to this (apart from the cheese
factor) as in the old systems you could combine the forces.
