Situation : Ambush
Terrain : Heavy
Bloodiest round : First (for sure)

Forces:
 Marines (me)
Supreme Commander (in LR w/ Terminator in LR as bodyguard)
        2 T-Hawks carrying a det. of 3 Asssult squads-hero and a det of 4
terminators.
Imp. Guard Tank Det- 3 Lemun Russ & 3 Hellhound
        SM Armor Det- 6 Land Speeders, 3 attack bikes, 9 Whirlwinds-Psycher &
Hero
        3 Shadowswords
SM Armor Det- 9 Attack bikes & 9 LR- hero in LR
Warlord Titan /w 2x Deathray, Multi Rocket Launncher, & Mega
Cannon
SM Det.- 5 Tactical in Rhino, 3 Devastator in Rhino, & 5 Vindicators
        Artillery Det- 9 Basalisks
        3 Baneblades

I was the defender and this was the layout from the long edge to the
short.
Aside from 2 Mega Gargants All of Mike Looneys Det can be found on
his page. (Sorry Mike I cant really remember them...soo many) And I
would like to apologize, the battle was rather big, and Im not posative
of what happened exactley in each turn...
The first round started out with my Guard tank det getting smushed
to slmost extinction and my Supreme Commander loosing both LR. Thinks
also did not go well for the whirlwind det. which lost all but 5
Whirlwinds under a massive artillery strike( Big Gunz are a pain)
However, things went rather well on the short side of the board. Facing
a Large Det of Stompas and Nobz, my SM Det fared rather well. With the
help of the Baneblades and the Artillery they all but annialated the
Orks. And since there was one or two orks left carrying around 19 BMs,
It was a good thing that the Marines were onn Assult. Thanks the the
30cm Rhinos, the orks couldnt get 15cm away, therefore destroying them.
And also in this corner was one of the Gargants that fell under the
combined fire of the Shadowswords and the LR det.
I also landed the two airborne det. (aptly named Brave and Stupid)
behind Mikes lines and luckily took out the psycher in his Artillry Det.
However, they also died a horendous death in turn 3 when facing the
other gargant alone.....(taking a hefty number of BM with them.)
In the subsequent turns, Mike managed to wipeout the Supreme Commander,
the Lemun Russ Det, and the Whirlwind Det. rather easily. What won the
game for me was that Mike brought on his Recon Det right by my Artilery
to challange the SM's and the Baneblades( which BTW he dropped a Cruz
Missile on all three, and didnt manage a single hit!). By laying down a
substantial number of BM's Mike decided it better to conceid than to
continue. (Seeing how many he would have removed and rolling a 1 rather
solidified that decision)

Lessons learned: When faced with artillery, it doesnt matter how big
your det is- its gonna get hurt. Badly.
Small det are not effective when marooned all alone facing a huge det.
My Commander and Lemun Russ' dets were making a mad scramble to get to
safety and just couldnt make it.
Loosing makes you learn more, but I know that this was one hell of a
hard fight. Dont second guess about what to do with something. When you
make a plan- stick to it. I might have been able to put some pressure on
Mikes Artillery, had I not chosen to run away with my Shadowswords. I
moved them to cover, but doind so, cost me hitting the det with
firpower. Oh well...it was fun!
