Kinda depends what you do on it. It does seem a bit pointless on Marines,
but I think there is a lot of scope for the Imperial Guard in using real
world armies as a basis.

I mentioned previously that I am seriously thinking about a WH40k army based
on the Waffen SS. This is not because I am a Nazi-lover (hate them), or I
respect what they did in the war (big and effective gains, but terrible
consequences), but just the fact that they have a very strong imagery that
will perhaps fit in to the WH40k universe. I never intended to put Nazi
symbols everywhere, not because I don't want to offend anyone, simply
because I do not think that would fit into the 40k universe. I would copy
their uniforms, however. It is the imagery and feel I am looking for. This
army probably would cause atrocities, but then most armies would in 40k. I
am not going to dwell on what they do in their spare time, I am just going
to paint them, and play games with them.

As for offending other people, I would always be the first to apologise for
this, but I may not always be sincere. On my shelf, I have Airfix models of
Me-109's and Spitfires. WWII is just an interest of mine. If anything this
had made me anti-German as a whole, but I'll always try to avoid any sort of
prejudice, in mind and action.

I cannot speak for the cultural difference between you and I (I assume that
not all Americans are like those who appear on Rikki Lake and other such
things), but I am a member of the WH40k list also and it does seem that this
list has more reasonable, thinking people. If you see a Waffen SS Guard
army, you'll know the owner is not necessarily a Nazi, or if he does have a
bad attitude, you'll know just to walk away from it and leave him to his own
crap little world.

There is no offence meant anywhere in this posting, and it is probably good
that we are talking about it, even if it is slightly off-topic. Any
comments will, of course, be welcome.
