        The Eldar War Walker, at least, has protection for the driver.
I forget which shield or field it is, but in WH40k, it has a 2+
unmodifiable saving throw on 1d6 (plus the driver's 5+ Guardian armor,
but that's hardly relevant). Besides, everyone knows you need LOS to
fire the weapons, so enclosed == bad.
