I've tried to paint everything with the SM/TL detachments
in mind (of course, I'm still in the process of putting together
another SM/TL army). When it comes to building armies in E40k, I try
to remember what I have available - for instance, I have 5 bike stands
painted in tzeentch colors. So I try not to make an army that would
result in my tzeentch bikers being spread across 2 detachments, since
if they get mixed together on the board it becomes impossible to tell
which det. lost what, and I really hate that. My old Eldar opponent
in SM/TL painted all the bikes and vypers in his windhost the same,
which caused problems when it came to unit coherency, how many break
tests to make, who ran away if he failed a break test, etc.
Plus painting them differently gives the units some
personality. All my IG tanks are going to have the appropriate
company and squadron markings and whatnot, which makes them look much
more interesting than they would otherwise.
