I use pre-cut steel wargames bases. 20mmx40mm for cavalry/bikes and
1/2"x1/2" for Hive Tyrants, Dreadnoughts, Avatar, Vypers, Landspeeders,
etc. The great thing about steel bases is the weight makes the figure
more stable (especially the single figs). You can drop a Hive Tyrant from
a couple of inches and it lands standing!
