Actually the official scale of 40K is "exaggeratted 25mm". GW always
claimed it was a 25mm game, but as the minis averages around 28-35mm a
bastardised scale was formed just for them. Other games have blossumed in
this scale now as well, like the wonderful Kryomek (which has returned,
woo-hoo!) and Warzone.
