Actually my SCA persona is an unreconstructed Zoroastrian, whose family
fled to Georgia after 642. Descended from an Engineer captured when the
Emperor Julian got offed, and his army taken prisoner. I even go so far
as to use the Sassanid Lock (note to Lurkers: a method of holding the
bowstring at full extension, named after the Sassanid dynasty that ruled
Iran immediately prior to the Islamic conquest) when doing archery...

I find pre-Islamic Persian history fascinating. And of course, the
scientific and cultural influence Persia had on the whole of the Islamic
world, and via osmosis, the relatively barbaric Europe.
