What you have heard is of course correct ;-) (all of the old timers know
that I am unashamedly one eyed when it comes to the Space marine vs E40K
heresy issue)

My advice is continue your search for the true Epic... It will be worth it
in the long run.

I might be able to supply photocopies of the various rule books if you
cannot get them anywhere.

The problem you will have is that the previous epic is so much better value
(from the point of view of the figures and terrain that are in the basic
set) that even the heretics who sold out to E40K snap up any copies of the
old space marine that are available...

Bartertown used to have a reasonable turnover of space marine rule sets -
you could get lucky there...
