I understand your problem, and based on the rules, a pure Chaos Dreadnaught
detachment could never be "in commmand". You would need to put some CSM's in
support and have them be the HQ .... and, if they are KIA, then the
detachment goes "out of command", much as Orks do when thier Nobz and related
leaders are KIA.

I don't like it either, since I would like to use the dreadnoughts just as
you are suggesting. But, such are the rules ... unless maybe the Firepower
supplement gives us some new detachment types with a Dreadnought HQ in chain
of command.

Anybody on the list seen teh Firepower supplement yet?
