You are correct. The law is transgressed even for "personal" copies. This
however is normally ignored by those who make decisions about who to
prosecute. After all there are bigger fish to fry. The really big guns
are reserved for those who copy to sell.

You know, I wasn't going to join in this discussion either.

I had quite enough of Copyright Law when I was in software business.
