---Work has recently been completed on live action sequences for the
CD-ROM game Epic by Bright Light Studios, Coventry. This is the first
use of video in a CD-ROM game based on the popular Games Workshop
Warhammer 40,000 universe. Epic will feature about 30 minutes of footage
depicting the struggle by human forces in repelling the invading Ork
hordes. The video shoot has involved the use of a wide range of
techniques to create exciting and large scale visuals. The prop and
costume departments have created a host of weapons, uniforms and other
artifacts for use in recording. Full sized Ork suits were prepared,
along with alternative heads and liveries to redress the costumes for
specific sequences. Other items include elaborate Frankenstein-style
torture devices, First World War-type trench sets and cybernetic implant
prosthetics. There have been a number of different stages in the shoot.
These have included bluescreen, greenscreen and live set recording, plus
a substantial amount of miniature work. Some of the more elaborate
models have included a devastated battlefield, a crumbling palace and a
mountain-top monastery. Post production has enabled Bright Light to
create detailed compositions that draw in full size, miniature and
computer generated elements. Using CGI has enabled the project to take
on a far more expansive visual look. A large range of characters has
meant casting over 30 actos with the lead role of Commissar Holt going
to the excellent Larry Rew. The game is being produced by Mindscape Inc.
under licence from Games Workshop Ltd. ---

Let the discussion begin.
