[Epic] Imperial Guard Motor Rifle Units
This is my take on Imperial Guard in Epic 40,000. This, of course, is
just IMHO. It also is a bit of my ongoing rant about unit TO&E in
general.
Imperial Guard Infantry:
Up to 3 command stands
Up to 3 Squads per command stands.
Note that in the case of IG the command unit can include a captain _and_
a psyker. In all other armies the psyker is a separate unit. BTW the
cost of a command stands works out to the 7 points per stand for grunts
+ 25 points for being a HQ.
<rant>
This army list, BTW, makes it damn near impossible to do a "real"
infantry company as a single detachment. This, while on the surface is
a bad thing, in fact is a blessing in disguise, as I have found that you
do NOT want to make company sized detachments, you want to make platoon
sized detachments.

My TO&E for an Imperial Guard Motor Rifle Company, Epic 40K style:
(This is based on the USSR's unit of the same name, circa 1984)
Company command Section "Detachment"
HQ Section
Command Stand 32pts
Captain 5pts
Psyker 10pts
Chimera 14pts
Troop units
Heavy Weapon squad 14pts
Commissar 6pts
Chimera 14pts
Support unit
Support Weapon Battery 26pts (2 units)
Total Points: 121
Notes: This is a total of 2 infantry stands, 2 weapon stands and 2
APC. The 2 infantry stands ride in one APC, the weapons in the other.
3 each of
Motor Rifle Platoon "Detachment"
HQ Section
Command Stand 32pts
Psyker 10pts
Chimera 14pts
Troop units
1 X Heavy Weapon Squad 14pts
2 X IG Infantry Squads 28pts
2 x Chimera 28pts
Total Points: 126
Notes. The Heavy weapon squad rides with the platoon leader.
Using this model this makes a IG Motor Rifle Company 499 points, and is
composed of 4 detachments. I decided that I would not use the "Supreme
Commander" list for the HQ section because I don't feel that the CO of a
company is high enough on the feeding chain to cause the table top
effects that the commander from that list does. I will be using the
Supreme Commander lists for Battalion and higher level commanders.
I am, over the next few days, going to translate the whole of the Soviet
Motor Rifle Division into Imperial Guard. I will post the units as I
get them done.
