[Epic] [E40k] Multiplayer Epic 40k

One other thing we tried this weekend was a multiplayer game of E40k.
Under the old rules, we discovered that time to complete a game rose with
the square of additional players (or at least that's how it seemed). Also,
turn sequence was a little hosed at times. E40k was a bit better in both
regards.

We tried Fog of War (!) which seemed to lend itself to this sort of abuse.
We had three players (Eldar, Chaos, Imperials), so we placed objectives as
normal. The capture objective we placed somewhat at random, although to
keep things interesting you should probably place a capture objective in
_each_ opponent's deployment area. That's because when we drew mission
cards, we also pulled one of the other two (or however many you have)
players' names from a cup; that person is your enemy, if that is relevant
to your mission. Initiative can be tricky, but what we did for three
players was put 4/3/3 counters (we used old Epic orders counters) based on
strategy rating and drew two per phase, replacing any duplicate draw and
trying again. The first drawn could decide who went first, the second
drawn could decide who went second. The two per phase were then kept out
of the cup as normal.

In our game, it turned our real bad for the Eldar (me). I had drawn an Ace
(contain and stop enemy from winning, 100% of force available) against the
Chaos horde, Chaos drew a King (keep cleanse objective free, take capture
and take & hold objectives, 100% of force available) against me, and the
Imperials also drew an Ace against me. Sigh. Luckily, the Impies were so
ponderous getting over to me, I had some very entertaining clashes with
Chaos before I got overrun on two fronts.

Try it, it is rather fun. Please post any rules tweaks you find you need
for larger multiplayer games, though!
