First, it's good to see another in the .au domain. Where are you?

SMs Plus
1. LAND RAIDERS (Aroma of Cheddar). If you don't have Titans, you gotta
have these. If you do have Titans, take some and your opponent won't
take any War Engines apart from Eldar Engines of Vaul, as they would be
quickly toast. LRs are great at stripping shields.
2. Good CC infantry, with excellent firepower on defence.
3. Mobility. Extrememly important in E40K.

SMs Minus
4. High cost of infantry.
5. No Organic Death Rays. Titan support or a bunch of IG SHVs are a must
for maximum effectiveness

IGs Plus
1. ARTILLERY. But it's expensive. Very. And requires a lot of skill for
it to be used to maximum effect. But it CAN repeat CAN be very effective
indeed in the right hands. It won't be the casualties, it will be the
disruption at a critical point. In the hands of an expert, it's
wonderful. But in the hands of someone of greatly lesser ability,
probably not cost-effective.
2. All the tanks in the world. You can tailor your force quite
effectively, you have a type of tank for every occasion.
3. DEATHSTRIKE MISSILE LAUNCHERS. Utter Cheddar. Fortunately it requires
a LOS.

IGs Minus
4. Cost is low, but not that low. 7 IG stands cost effectively 75 pts.
5. Strategy rating isn't great.
