I'm sorry, but I just can't comprehend what you're saying.
They can't be moving parallel to a unit that is currently sitting
still (movement isn't quite simultaneous). It's impossible, unless
I'm missing something.
Also, they're quite clearly moving away. Measure the distance
between them before, and after. The "after" distance is quite a bit
more than the "before" distance. The *only* possible conclusion *I*
can make is that they are moving away. <shrug>
Could you please clarify?

The Battles Book on p. 107 has a diagram almost identical to
this, with the same conclusions that I have reached.

"You can't deliberately move further away from the closest
enemy when you make an Assault move." I guess this means that you
can't put a unit on Assault for the increased movement when you want
to fall back to a defensible position, you have to use March if you
want to go any faster.
