By the way, I do agree that 75 points for a farseer is expensive, but...

I guess I don't look at the whole HQ thing as an "upgrade" to an existing
unit... I just think of it as "the cost to muster". So you're going to
pay 25 points no matter what, and then declare whatever unit you want the
detachment HQ (subject to normal chain of command, of course). I'm
probably going to play marines, so this mentality works better for me I
guess. I really don't care if an eldar player pays the 25 points or not,
but if he doesn't, he should at least have the farseer. In my honest
opinion, eldar units with Hero aren't worth the points because they
still use the guardian stats, and while a 4+ additional save is nice,
it isn't by any means a complete life saver. Also, having a 2 assault
instead of a 1 just isn't that big a deal. Marine units, on the other
hand, make good use of the Hero ability where assault is concerned. A
jump in assault from 3 to 6 is far more significant.

As far as I am concerned, Farseers are a kind of "fluff" unit; they're
there to "bridge the gap" between 40K and E40K.
