Well, with only 10 stands of marines (along with 2 command stands), that's
only 40, max 52 assault at any one time, and that's ideally speaking. Ok,
that is quite a lot, but against most close combat specialists, they're
at even odds. They certainly won't be beating up on the Tyranids, and
against most other detachments with large numbers of stands they'll be
at even odds as well. Plus, unless you drop them onto the field with pods,
they'll take a beating all the way into CC (if they ever make it that far).
They can't all make their saves, can they? By the time they get a chance
to do anything, they'll be dead. It might be that I'm underestimating
their survivability, but even if they survive, they won't be able to move.
They will never get the +1 to roll for leadership as they will never have
more than 15 units. Sure, you'll have to devote some energy to prevent
them from doing much, but look at the benefits. A detachment that soon
becomes little more than a 15cm range shooter, when it should be assaulting.

The "high liability" of rampage units is what you mentioned. If these
guys lose a combat, it is likely they'll be _completely_ wiped out.
Well, maybe with the exception of the librarian and the captain...
And this is not too hard to imagine, especially if an opposing detachment
first stops the DC's advance and then charges the DC. I mean, put a
little close support in the assaulting detachment, and you just can't go
wrong. For example, if you have a huge massed infantry detachment,
like orcs often have, it is possible to engage the DC with the runts,
and then just pile on the supporting fire until the DC goes under.
If you engage every unit in the DC and they lose, it's bedtime for
the whole lot. And you've lost what, 10 5 point units? Seems like
a good exchange to me.
