From this, you might conclude that a million points shouldn'=
t
mean squat to the imperium, orks, squats, etc. Remember
that this is the =
U.S ONLY, and that even in WW2 the population
of the U.S. was far less than=
it is today. An entire world can
generate a staggering number of troops. W=
ar Machines would
be less common, but still the "thousand gun" infantry bar=
rage
was a reality on the WW2 Russian front. You want epic...
Most of our b=
attles, even in epic, are skirmishes. That
10,000 point batle I did several=
years back was hard to do
even with three people per side. Now imagine a _=
Real_
Imperial guard offensive. Infantry, tanks, artillery - marines would
=
not even be a drop in the bucket on this scale, so when
mixing them, think =
of them as elite special forces/commandos
/stiffening troops. I can see tit=
ans being concentrated
into groups within a few mile front, and used to bre=
ak through
>enemy lines like tanks were in our real wars.
I think with som=
e historical numbers, maybe a new
perspective on what is "realistic" and "l=
ikely" can be gained. Even with
1000 chapters of 1000 marines, that's 1 mil=
lion marines total. Not much
to cover a whole galaxy. They're the rapid rea=
ction force, kinda like
marines today (and airborne and the other rangers).=
It's the IG and
the TL's who fight the meat grinder wars and defend whole =
planets.
Orks, 'Nids, Chaos -there's a lot of 'em out there.
Let me know i=
f you get anything out of this...
Yeah, I knew someone was going to bring =
up reality. Yes, your right. This is the old fact that GW can't deal with s=
cale well, I wish they would quit trying to stick with it and give up. 1000=
marines per chapter means you could loose a chapter a battle. Also, marine=
s arn't quick to make, the need training, implantation, ect. Therefore you =
would need more than 1000, because a since chapter could get wiped out pret=
ty quick. (You could do it in a large epic game. It only 200 stands. I thin=
k there were 18 stands per company. So it's a bit more than 10 compaines.) =
Actually, probably is 10 f you include the fact each librarian, captian and=
techmarine gets a bodyguard of marines.
That would be a good Sm/Tl game.=
About 10K points. Do like the battle of Maccrage or something ultramarines=
vs the Tyranids.
I figure each chapter has to be about 1 million marines.=
This would a large enough force that part of the chapter could be deployed=
along a front to break hold it or break through or something and the chapt=
er would not be in danger of extinction. There are probalby billions of tec=
hguard/imp guard. Not mention 10x that in PDF. Oh well.
You forget that G=
W seems to thing that invasetions and the defence of them could be handled =
in 40K size games. By that standard epic is huge.
